FAQ's:

Wait, this is softball right?
No, this is baseball! Wood bats, pine tar, helmets, cleats, catchers' gear, umpires. America's pastime.

When is the season?
We try to start games in late April (weather permitting!) and play the regular season games through August, with playoffs in August-September.

How many games per week?
It is most common for each team to play one game per week. Occaisionally there will be two.

How many games are there?
Each league has a regular season of 14-16 games, plus additional games for playoffs.

Are there are multiple leagues?
We currently have 3 leagues:

  • 18 and older
  • 30 and older (weekend games only)
  • 30 and older (weeknight games only)

There are plenty of guys who are older than 30 playing in the 18+ league, if that's your preference. We are interested in starting another league (either 45+ or 55+) and we'd love to hear from you if you're interested in playing!

I'm pretty busy, what if I can't make it to some games?
We're all busy, but we make it work. We have no games on the following weekends: Mother's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. All managers build their rosters assuming guys will miss games due to family trips, summer vacations, camping trips, weddings, etc.

How do I join a team?
Every year we host a tryout that is open to the public. Teams will be present to draft attendees who play positions that they need filled. Click here to register for the tryouts & draft.

Why is there a cost for tryouts?
We do our best to keep the costs as low as possible. Unfortunately, the NWIBL doesn't own fields. We have to rent the field, pay for baseballs, cover fees for maintenance and staff, etc.

What if I don't get drafted?
If there are more players at the tryouts than there are teams in need, it is common for us to create a new team from players at the draft. If you want to play, we will find a spot for you!

What if I can't make it to the tryouts?
If you can't make it to the tryout, please contact us separately in an email. Tell us a bit about yourself, your baseball experience and we will help you find a team.

Can I start a new team (instead of joining an existing one)?
Yes! We're always excited to welcome new teams to the league. Please contact us to let us know you're interested in adding a team and we'll walk you through it.

What does it cost to join the NWIBL?
Individual players do not pay the NWIBL. The NWIBL collects a single payment from the manager of each team, who is responsible for collecting payments from individual players.  After you join a team, you will work out the costs for jerseys, hats, and league fees with the manager of your team.

Where are the games typically played?
We play games at a number of fields around the area, including:
- Walker Stadium (Portland Pickles)
- Sckavone Stadium (Portland)
- Hillsboro Stadium (former field of the Hops)
- Tualatin Hills Parks & Rec District (Beaverton)
- Luke Jensen Sports Park (Vancouver)
- Jesuit Highschool (Beaverton)
- Ridgefield Outdoor Recreation Complex (Ridgefield)

We're always looking for more locations to host games. If you have access to a baseball field and would like to partner with the NWIBL, please contact us.
